Show of hands, how many people here are driving cars with claymore airbags?

I am, can’t wait for BMW to send out a letter in a month to tell me that they will recall my car in a few months when they might eventually have replacement airbags. Hopefully those won’t be Takata airbags, although they probably will be.

None of the cars at our house are affected. I’m still holding out on the M3 though since the early E46 uses what seems to be a lightly modified E36 wheel. My aunt’s E93 was just added though, so there’s that.

One in the steering wheel, had the passenger side claymore replaced last year under the recall. That reminds me I need to call the dealer and question them, I’ve been waiting for the drivers side claymore to be replaced for 6+ months now.

I may or may not have disconnected mine (such a thing would be illegal, after all) to make sure I would keep my pretty face shrapnel-free in case of a crash.

Damn, all you drama queens. You think it’s easy to just pull a few million airbag inflators out of thin air? If you’re that scared, take your airbag off. Enjoy plowing your face into your steering wheel. It’s clearly a much better chance than the very very small chance of failure of the inflator.

Damn, just looked it up and it appears our ‘08 Passat Wagon has one. I thought we were too old for that shit. I’m really surprised Takata isn’t under the same kind of scrutiny or investigations GM had to go through for the ignition switch crap. You can’t affect this many products and not know about it. WTF.

As someone who works in the parts industry, what Takata did is absolutely unacceptable. If they were designed and made right in the first place, nobody would be trying to pull millions of inflators out of thin air right now.

They can suck my balls if they argue that.

Yep. ‘05 Outback. I really hope Subaru of America sends me a recall notice. It only affected people in “high humidity” climates, but dear god is St. Louis humid during the summer/fall. If they don’t send me a recall I don’t know what to to.

In Canada it’s illegal to drive with a safety system that came with the car rendered useless.

This also applies to TCS and seatbelts.

I imagine Cinci is much like STL with the humidity. It’s horrendous here during the spring/summer/early fall. Any idea what we can do if we aren’t issued recall notices for the bags? I don’t think about it much but after nearly wrecking my car last week hitting a patch of ice going 55, it’s been on my mind.

Subaru’s detailed campaign information (WQR-53) can be found here .

The VIN lookup tool looks to be working. I entered a few VINs I pulled from Autotrader (close to St. Louis), and they all showed needing the Passenger Airbag replaced. I believe this is covering all areas of the country.

I have heard that there is a shortage of parts for the BL/BP regarding this recall. On the forums, people are being told the parts should be readily available by April.

Yep, 2013 Mustang, it was recalled last year but the parts still aren’t available. My other car is from 1984 and has no airbags, so at the moment, I’m thinking it might actually be safer.

‘08 Outback here during affected dates. No recall notice yet.

I actually scheduled an appointment with the dealership to replace the airbag. Dropped off the car and got a call about an hour later saying they didn’t have any in stock and they’d have to keep our car 10 days until one came in. Asked how they were dumb enough to schedule an appointment, picked up the car, and waited. Called 10 days later and still no progress.

I never fully understood my country’s safety requirement...

We don’t require an annual inspection (which means that a lot of rusty shitbuckets are allowed to drive on the roads), but I can’t have a rollcage and racing harness in my car ‘’in the name of safety’’.

Go figures.

No rental. I don’t think this particular dealership has any idea how to run a business effectively. It should easily be a one day job if they ever have parts stocked.

Also, you might find that you have multiple recalls out that they will want to perform. Ours had two outstanding recalls for brake line failure, and two for emissions problems in addition to the inflator recall.

2007 Mazda6 here. Got a notice of the recall, but only that they’d let me know when to bring it in with another notice. It’s been over a year with no updates. Considering calling Mazda corporate and seeing if they can release my car’s VIN for the repair.

It’s actually affected the value of the car, been lowballed on trade-in offers because of the “outstanding recall.”
